Please welcome Shauna Black as she talks about her new release!

When Shauna E. Black was a young teen, her English teacher made the mistake of offering extra credit for original short stories, and was suddenly swamped with Shauna’s writing. Dutifully reading each story (at least, she wrote encouraging things in the margins), this teacher inspired Shauna to follow her dreams, leaving her with a warm spot in her heart for all English teachers.

Today, Shauna still keeps a box in the attic full of early manuscripts, most written in pencil on lined paper. She lives in the high desert of the southwest with her husband and four children. On springtime hiking adventures to the many Ancestral Puebloan ruins near her home, she finds inspiration for her writing. She also likes to experiment in the kitchen, perform in local singing groups, and travel to exotic locations to collect wind chimes. Visit http://shaunablack.com for more information.

 Ready for a Snippet!?!

“You have no choice.” Bridei pointed at the only boot visible under my robes. “That missing foot makes it certain she can’t work magic. Anyone else could betray you. Anyone!” She stared Talorc down, and it was as if my mother stood there in a familiar battle of wills with her king. “Even me.”

Talorc’s mouth worked, making his mustache twitch and quiver. “Alswyn.” He nearly choked on my name. “Your sister is right. We … need you.”

I lost all control of my temper. “Now you want my help? I tried to help you once before, old man! You didn’t believe then that I was on your side, so why should you believe it now?”

Talorc turned a bright red, his face a thundercloud. “You had no proof of your accusations, and you were a known servant of Dera.”

“I removed her mark so that I could warn you. I lost my leg, but I saved your kingdom, and your miserable life!”

Middle Grade Young Adult Book Blog Hop

Okay, gang. I'm condensing this now that we have the bugs worked out. Please share at any other MG/YA/Children's sites you belong to so we have make it a "kick booty" hop! Here's the poster:

Hello everyone! I hope all is well with you. Well the Christmas season has officially started. Ho! Ho Ho! There’s no better way to start it off than with a blog hop!

That’s right! A Christmas Blog Hop! Since I’m participating in this event, I thought I’d share with you my favorite Christmas movie. It’s a kid’s movie, but I never get tired of it. That movie is “Polar Express.”

I love the message in that story. It reminds us what Christmas is truly all about. I remember the first time I saw it. It was in a movie theater and I had taken my two boys to see it with me.

They sat in their seats, mesmerized by the big screen and Tom Hanks did an excellent job as the conductor. I can’t imagine anyone else in that role, can you?

It’s the story of a young boy who has stopped believing in Santa. He wakes to the sound of a train and it takes him on a wild ride. During his time on the train, he learns the true meaning of friendship and the need to just believe. It’s a heartwarming story and I recommend it for all ages.

Chris Van Allsburg wrote the book the movie is based on. Here’s the cover and blurb below.

Since its publication in 1985, Chris Van Allsburg’s holiday classic has sold millions of copies and has come to signify the essential spirit of Christmas for countless readers.

Readers young and old are sure to treasure this inspiring book, which brings to life the magic of Christmas for all who believe.

Now for the giveaway! I’m giving away a fifteen-dollar Amazon gift card to one lucky winner! In addition, I’m giving away two eBook copies of one of my Super Spies books, the winner gets their choice. Below are the covers and blurbs!

The Super Spies and the Cat Lady Killer 500x750This book opens in a small town in Michigan where fifteen-year-old Sarah Cole is stuck spending the summer at her Aunt and Uncle’s with her sister, Lacey. She’s not happy with the situation until she befriends a girl named Jackie. The three girls stumble upon the ruthless murder of a reclusive neighborhood woman. One of the officers investigating the crime believes the girls are responsible for her death. Fearing that this officer will frame them for the murder, the girls organize their own detective squad. They become the Super Spies and start their own fact-finding mission.  The Super Spies can’t understand why anyone would want to murder the “Cat Lady” until they start digging into her past and discover a horrible crime that happened thirty years ago. They uncover a connection between the two crimes and attempt to bring this information to the police, only to be reprimanded for meddling in the inquest. Not only are the girls upset by the admonition, but they also struggle with the fact that their exuberant investigating could provide a legal loophole allowing the killer to go free. To make matters worse, the police don’t even believe them. Frustrated by this turn of events, the Super Spies realize it’s up to them to snare the Cat Lady killer, or die trying…

TheSuperSpiesandtheHighSchoolBomber 500x750This book opens in a small town in Michigan where Sarah and her sister Lacey are now living with their Aunt and Uncle. Still reeling from the fact her parents have disappeared, Sarah starts the school year with her new friend Jackie Jenkins. When Sarah learns the school has been bombed, she’s filled with dread. Uncle Walt is a teacher, and he was in the school when the bomb exploded. Taking matters into her own hands, Sarah decides to search for him. The rest of the Super Spies are right behind her. When a fireman chases them away from the school, Sarah becomes suspicious. She decides to investigate. The FBI arrives on the scene. Sarah realizes this bombing could have even bigger implications. Searching for the bombers, Sarah is introduced to the world of terrorism. She fears that the bombing and her parents’ disappearance are connected and terrorists are involved. To make matters worse, the bombers are determined to finish the job. Can the Super Spies find the bombers before it’s too late?

TheSuperSpiesandthePiedPiper 500x750Sarah Cole and her sister Lacey are at it once again when their missing parents’ cell phone is traced to Alden, Michigan. When the FBI declines to continue the investigation, Sarah takes matters into her own hands. She calls upon the Super Spies and they delve into the situation. Suddenly the teens find themselves immersed in small town intrigue and mystery involving a menacing stranger, who Sarah dubs “The Stalker.” But when Sarah finds out he’s connected to her parents’ disappearance she’s determined to find out what that connection is. The Super Spies embark on a journey that leads them into a web of corporate corruption at its highest level that leaves innocent victims in its wake. Can the Super Spies stop the greedy corporation before it’s too late?

Author Blog Hop for Children’s Authors, MG Authors and YA Authors

I was invited by my friend, Jodi Desautels, to participate in a “blog hop interview.” Jodi sent me some interview questions, which I answer here on my blog. Following my answers, I tag 3 other writers who will, in turn, answer questions on their blogs next week. It’s been fun checking out the Blog Hops to see what other children’s authors have posted!

Jodi posted her answers to the questions at her blog, What’s New With Jodi Desautels on July 22nd. If you like, you can leave a comment on her blog and tell her that you connected to her through my link here!

http://authorjodidesautels.weebly.com/1/post/2013/07/author-blog-hop-for-childrens-authors-mg-authors-and-ya-authors.html

20111210_ABS_1296[1]Here are my answers to the questions that I chose from the list:

1. What are you working on right now?

I’m working on a Coming of Age Young Adult Novel and I’m hashing out an idea for the fourth Super Spies book.

2. How does it differ from other works in its genre?

It’s my hope that it’ll be not only entertaining but an inspirational story as well.

3. Why do you write what you do?

When I was a young girl, I wanted to be a detective just like Nancy Drew. Then I realized I would love to be a writer. This revelation occurred when I was in fifth grade and I started writing my own mysteries then. However, I didn’t seek publication until I was home with my kids. That’s when the Super Spies series was born.

Right now, I’m taking a break from the Super Spies and trying something a little different. I’m writing a Coming of Age novel and I’m really enjoying it. I love the characters and the bobbing and weaving that they do in their prickly relationship. I can’t say more than that. 😉 I don’t want to give too much away. I write to inspire young girls. I want them to follow their passion and dream big. 🙂 That’s why most of my main characters are strong girls.

4. How does your writing process work?

I’m a seat of my pants writer. Plotting ruins the creative process for me.  I usually know the beginning of the story and how it ends…and in the middle I let the characters take over. That’s how I get so many surprising twists and turns in my mysteries.

The one negative that I’ve found is that I have a lot of editing to do when the first draft is done. But I don’t really mind that either because I enjoy taking a scene and making it stronger and more emotional.

Below are the three authors that I tagged and their posts will be up August 5th.

Rachel Got the Contract! It’s a party!

******THIS GIVEAWAY IS NOW OVER. WINNERS TO BE ANNOUNCED SHORTLY!***

Hello everyone! I hope all is well with you! Yes… we have another Blog Hop and Giveaway today! My good friend Rachel Van Dyken has just signed a huge NEW YORK CONTRACT for her books “The Bet” and “The Elite”! So we are celebrating with a blog hop party! So come on and help us celebrate!

Picture

Rachel’s first book was published in 2011 and she has become a major success story. Not only is she a bestselling author, she’s a NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR!!! It just goes to show you if you believe in yourself and stick to your dreams you can achieve them!

Here’s the two books that caught New York’s eye!

“I have a proposition for you…”
Kacey should have run the minute those words left Seattle millionaire Jake Titus’s mouth. Instead, she made a deal with the devil in hopes of putting her past behind her once and for all.
Four days.
She could do four days!
But she wasn’t counting on Jake’s older brother Travis being there to witness their farce of an engagement.
One thing is for certain.
One brother is right for her.
One wants a lifetime.
And one is in league with the devil.
She should have gotten Jake’s signature in blood.

*This is a New Adult Book, blood, violence, cursing, sexual references, and drug use. Not recommended for those under 17*When I won the annual Eagle Elite College Scholarship lottery, I was thrilled. After all, my grandma had just died and I wanted to take care of my aging grandpa — he couldn’t be a farmer in Wyoming forever. And graduating from Eagle Elite meant opportunity.
But I wasn’t counting on meeting Nixon.Nor was I counting on the rules of the Elect.1. Do not touch The Elect.2. Do not look at The Elect.3. Do not speak to The Elect. And worst of all? Don’t discover the secret they hide, because in the end, you may just realize… it’s about you.

Whoo! Hoo! Congrats Rachel! We are all so proud of you! Check out some of her other  books!

Upon a Midnight Dream                 Waltzing with the Wallflower                 The Redemption of Lord Rawlings

The Seduction of Sebastian St. James               An Unlikely Alliance                   Compromising Kessen

To celebrate Rachel’s success everyone who’s participating in the Blog Hop is organizing a giveaway on their blog. So here’s my giveaway. The winner will get one e-book copy of one of Rachel’s books of their choice and one copy of one of the books in The Super Spies series.

How do you enter? You can enter by posting a comment about Rachel. It can be one of your favorite things about her, or maybe what your favorite Rachel Van Dyken book is, or maybe even your favorite character from one of Rachel’s books. This will earn you one entry.

If you tweet or share about the Blog Hop on twitter and/or facebook and copy and paste the tweet or share in the comment section this will count as two entries. Winners will be chosen on the 20th of May. 🙂 Good luck everyone!

Vala Agendas Blog Tour

Hello Everyone! I hope all is well with you! I’ve got J.F. Jenkins here and she’s sharing some great information about herself and her new book “Vala Agendas”.  Take it away J. F.! 🙂

1)       What inspired you to write your Book?
Like most of my books, I had a really trippy dream. I call it “Divine Inspiration”. 🙂

2)       Who is your favorite character and why?

That’s a tough one to answer. There are many that I like equally for various different reasons. I guess if I had to narrow it down, however, I would pick Jewl, and that’s for reasons to be revealed in later books.

3)       Why should readers read your book?

Because it’s awesome? Lol. No, in all seriousness, because it’s the beginning of a journey like no other.

4)       Tell us a little bit about your writing process.

I just write. There isn’t really any other way to describe it. When I get an idea, I sort of think about where I want it to go and take it there. Usually there are twists and turns along the way of course, but I just keep writing even if I’m not necessarily feeling like it.

5)       What’s next for J. F. Jenkins the author?

I’m working on the fourth book in the Vala series, Denver’s book, which has no title at the moment. Then I’m going to finish the last book in my Dragons Saga.

Fun questions:

1)       Tell us something that no one else knows about you.

I can’t tell you that! Then everyone will know!

2)       What kind of books do you enjoy reading?

Everything and anything! Seriously, I span multiple genres.

3)       Who’s your favorite author?

Stephen King

4)       What’s your favorite guilty pleasure?

Big Time Rush

5)       If you could sit down and talk with a famous author, who would it be and why?

Probably Stephen King and that’s just because he’s so interesting to listen to.

Thanks J.F. for taking the time to be here today and anyone who wants to purchase her new book the links are below! Check it out!

Cheyenne Loveless was just a boring sixteen-year-old girl. Then Denver Collins bit her and everything changed. Her plants start talking to her, she finds out she’s a Nymph, and a witch and the angel of death show up at her doorstep to take her away to the prestigious Vala School and Seminary. Oh, and she has no choice in the matter.

All she wants to do is blend in and return to being invisible, but the more time that passes, the harder that becomes. Plus she’s a daughter of the Divine, an exclusive secret society which rules the world of myth, and discovers she is a key ingredient to an ancient covenant created before she was born. A covenant …

Forbidden Mind Blog Tour for Kimberly Kinrade

Hello Everyone! I hope all is well with you! I’ve got Kimberly Kinrade here today and she’s answering some questions and talking about her new release! Check it out!

What inspired you to write your Book?

Years ago, I dreamed of a girl named Sam who could read minds and was rented out to the rich as a spy. I jotted the idea down and went back to sleep. Last fall, while preparing two other books for launch, I wanted to put out a short story and remembered this dream. Well, turned out it wasn’t a short story, it was a trilogy that is now becoming a saga, with more than 40 spin-off books now planned in this world, though the world becomes so much bigger than Forbidden Mind.

Who is your favorite character and why?

I’d have to say Lucy is my favorite in Forbidden Mind, though Hunter Riley is my favorite by the third book, Forbidden Life. Lucy is spunky, brave and irreverent at times, and she just has a great energy that I love about her. She’s also a martial arts expert, can tell when people are lying, and can hack into anything.

Why should readers read your book?

If they love a fast paced romantic adventure, super powers, and stories with lots of unexpected twists, I think they’ll love the Forbidden Trilogy. It’s been compared to X-Men meets Dark Angel and Alias.

Tell us a little bit about your writing process.

I’ve been learning how to plot better, because the outlining process has always been hard for me, but with so many books now set in the same world, and so many spin off trilogies, I just have to be more organized in my writing. So I come up with an idea, then I flesh it out. Once I’m ready, I’ll do a rough outline, just a synopsis of the story, then start breaking it down into chapters until I have a detailed outline with which to begin writing the prose. This helps me avoid any major plot hole issues and allows me to focus on the writing.

I usually average anywhere from 3,000 to 6,000 words a day once I’m heavily involved in a project, though I’ve been known to do 10,000 to 15,000 in a day when on deadline. (And then I crash for a week, having lost all ability to form words.)

What’s next for Kimberly Kinrade the author?

On November 26th, I’m launching The Forbidden Trilogy, which will have all three books from the Forbidden series that are now available (Forbidden Mind, Forbidden Fire and Forbidden Life) plus some major bonus content including interlude scenes between books, character profiles, a question and answer, and a book club discussion guide.

I also have another Three Lost Kids children’s chapter book coming out on that day.

On January 15th, 2013, my husband, Dmytry Karpov, and I are releasing a romance called Sunrise & Nightfall and I’m ridiculously excited about this book! He’ll risk everything to save her life. She’ll sacrifice it all to save his soul.

And in May, 2013, we are launching a complete trilogy, The Fallen Trilogy–Blood of the Fallen, Tears of the Fallen and Flight of the Fallen. This is a spin-off series from Forbidden Trilogy and stars Luke and Lucy. I think fans will really enjoy it.

Fun questions:

Tell us something that no one else knows about you.

Well, my husband and best friend pretty much know everything there is to know about me, but let’s see… most people don’t know that I was one signature away from joining the military out of high school. I skipped a grade, then was recruited by all the branches after I scored really high on my ASVAB. They wanted me for military intelligence. Just think, I could have been a real spy!

What kind of books do you enjoy reading?

I love paranormal YA, thrillers, epic fantasy, dark fantasy, romance, paranormal romance… I have a wide range of likes.

Who’s your favorite author?

Do I have to just pick one? C.S. Lewis, Neil Gaiman, Patti Larsen, Dmytry Karpov, Lane Diamond… just to name a few.

What’s your favorite guilty pleasure?

Chocolate!

If you could interview one celebrity who would it be and why?

Neil Gaiman. I adore his work and he’s been such an inspiration to me.

Forbidden Mind Blurb

49% of Americans believe their government officials are honest. I don’t know these officials, or their supporters, but I know their secrets, and 49% of Americans are wrong.

My employers pay me well to be right, to know things others can’t. But I don’t know why they brought that boy in, strapped to a stretcher, barely conscious. He asked me for help when I could give none.

I’m a wealthy spy, a talented artist, a martial arts black belt, and a prisoner. They tell me that on my eighteenth birthday, I will be released, free to go to the college of my dreams. It’s my eighteenth birthday, and a man in black is at my door. I know he’s not here to free me.

I know, because I can read minds.

My name is Sam, and this is my story.

So begins the tale of Sam and Drake–from the time they link minds, forging a bond that leads to an unconventional romance–to their fight for survival against the corrupt, twisted organization known as ‘Rent-A-Kid.’

“…a thrilling, dark and deeply romantic read that had me sitting on the edge of my seat and eagerly awaiting the next installment.” ~ Refracted Light Young Adult Book Reviews

“The plot is very ALIAS and DARK ANGEL-like with X-MEN as its backdrop (awesome combo!). Forbidden Mind BLEW my mind!” ~Sour Skittles Book Blog
