Do You Believe In Synchronicity?

Hello everyone. I hope all is well with you. I’m back today after a busy week at work and a busy week from writing. I’m at 38,871 total words on my latest MS. Even though I’m not participating in Nano this year, my plan is to finish this rough draft by the end of the month. It’s going to be tight with the holidays but I think I can do it.

Today I’d like to talk about Synchronicity. It’s an interesting concept that was coined by the psychologist Carl Jung. He coined it as a “meaningful coincidence.”

Synchronicity occurs when a coincidence shifts the direction of your life.

 

Do you believe in this? I do. I’ve had my own personal experiences with it. According to some mediums, there are always signs letting us know something big is about to happen. That’s what I find the most difficult. How do you know when an occurrence is a sign of something to come or it’s just an event?

 

According to experts, the way to determine if a sign is significant is to have an open and relaxed mind when you think about it. According to the Personal Tao:

“With a clear mind we will simply understand the sign, know the path forward and step into it. We won’t choose to follow a path out of worry, doubt or a desire for life to be a specific way.

Because synchronicity works with “what might be” or potential, we must hold it lightly. We are on a current path, yet we have not chosen the future path.

Learning to work with synchronicity is an art. We watch for the signs, take actions and test them over time.

There are infinite possibilities for how synchronicity will come to you. It may come in the form of a song over the radio that helps you shift frustration into courage and motion. A synchronicity may be a cool breeze that catches your attention and reminds you to smile.”

I have to confess I’m a believer in synchronicity. When I look back on my life and the decisions I made to get to the place I’m at, I see it in play.

For example, I was in a serious relationship before I was married to my current hubby. I met my hubby through this man I dated. We became friends, I even set him up on a couple of double dates. When our relationship ended, this man  I’d become friends with asked my ex if he could date me. Since it was an amicable breakup, my ex didn’t have a problem with it.

Now I wouldn’t have met my current hubby if I hadn’t dated the first guy. I know when we go through a break up, we feel that it’s a waste of time and all of those other emotions you go through, but a lot of times, it can be a stepping stone to something more suited for you.

There are other synchronistic events in my life, but I won’t list all of them and I’m sure I’ve missed some signs along the way. I want to become more adapt at seeing them for what they are.

  4. I absolutely believe in synchronicities. I had never heard of this term, but I wholeheartedly believe in it. For instance, my mother started research on family genealogy about 10 years ago. After a few years of studying, she found a family farm that still existed. The barn, the granary, the old corn cribs, and the old windmill were still standing. The buildings had largely been untouched since my family had built them in the early 1900’s. Fast-forward a few years, and my parents bought the farm, they have started a tree farm, and I began my writing journey because of the incredible events that have taken place. I’m hoping to move closer to the farm in the next few years, and I plan to take over the farm as soon as it gets to be too much for my parents to take care of. How is that for sunchronicities?   5. I do believe in synchronicities, Lisa, though I do not believe that everything happens for a reason. One example I can think of was when I accepted a new job two years ago that was not well suited for me, and several ‘coincidences’ made me aware of an alternative that I pursued which turned out so much better for me.

    1. I know. It’s really hard because there’s no real solid evidence. Well, there is but I think you have to experience it yourself to really believe. 🙂 That’s the hard part for me. How do you know when something’s synchronistic or just a regular event?

  8. Yes! Totally believe! I just work under the assumption that I’m always being guided and most everything is a sign. Like you, I met my hubby in a synchronous way (and wrote a blog about it). 🙂

  9. I’m a believer in everything. I want signs that I’m on the right track. I need them. Unfortunately it’s because I have little faith in my own ability to be strong enough to face life’s challenges.
    I’m working on that though. 🙂

    1. I know exactly where you’re coming from. I’m constantly looking for signs I’m on the right path. I feel like I am, but sometimes doubt seeps in. I’m working on building up my own faith in myself, too. 🙂

  11. Totally believe. There are too many situations from thinking of someone that I haven’t seen in some time and they end up coming over to my house the next day, to losing my job right at that time in life when my husband and I are already in the process of downsizing to sell our house. At any other time, it would have been horrifying, but it was the right time in my life for it to happen.

    1. I hear you. We just have to have faith in the process, right? I’ve had that happen with people, too. It just happened on Friday. I was talking to someone about one of my son’s friends and not an hour later he appeared. It kind of freaked me out a little bit. 🙂

      1. It happened to me this week, the person had just left the house only a few hours before I wrote that comment. It was very fresh in my mind.

  14. Thoughtful post, Lisa, and I believe if things good or bad have happened they happened for a reason. I too am in a good space, after said excellent and adverse events. So I suppose that is the same as synchronicity and I think Denzil is correct in that it is easier to see it after the fact?

    1. I know! It’s kind of amazing. I’ve also heard that the trees in the forest communicate also. They can share nutrients with each other and help each other if one is sick. I can’t remember where I read that, but I thought that was pretty amazing.

  19. I totally believe in it. Have you watched Sliding Doors? I think there’s reasons why we choose certain paths and it isn’t always obvious straight away but things have a habit of (usually and hopefully) turning out alright in the end.

      1. I think you’ll like it. It’s about split decisions and how this can change our path. It’s a really good film.

  23. Yes absolutely. I can see it so much in me life. In particular with how I met my husband. It was like the universe had to knock barrier after barrier down to ensure that we met. It was pretty determined that we did so. Very interesting post.

  24. Thank you for this post – it is very interesting and the subject of synchronicity has long fascinated me. I wrote an article on it: “the meaningful patterning of two or more psycho-physical events not otherwise causally connected”.https://ezinearticles.com/?How-Can-Carl-Jungs-Theory-of-Synchronicity-Help-You-in-Your-Creative-Writing?&id=6834794. The famous example from the cases of Carl Jung is when a patient was describing a dream about a scarab beetle, and they had previously discussed the symbolism of the scarab beetle and its relevance to her situation. At that moment a real scarab beetle flew into the window of the room they were sitting in.
    In the article I describe some of my own experiences of synchronicity. For instance, I saw a Ulysses Butterfly (for the first time ever) on the first day I wore a t-shirt with a Ulysses butterfly on the front (given me by my sister several months before & not worn until that day). There are plenty of other examples. Thank you for raising this subject on your own blog!

  25. I totally believe in synchronicity and have written about it many times. For forty years I had a recurring dream of someone I had never met, knew this person was special and would change my life. Then, over tarot cards and a reading (along with other signs) she was revealed to me; we began an extraordinary journey to self-discovery that opened my life to new possibilities. Alas, we are no longer together but my experiences cannot be diminished. Great post!

  27. I am a great believer in the interconnectedness of everything across time AND space. When I meet somebody for the first time in this existence, I often connect with them in a way that feels like it’s already been an eternity. We may have been two specks, animate or inanimate, which were closely bonded on a planet on the other side of the universe a trillion years ago, but the connection is unquestionable. Of course, with most of the people I meet, it is truly the first time, but I can usually tell.

    1. Wow. That’s awesome that you have that ability. Sometimes I feel that way, too. I feel like I already know a person I’ve just been introduced to. We just kind of click. That hasn’t happened in a while, but when it does it’s amazing. 🙂

  29. I do believe in some form of synchronicity. For example, two days before I received a message from my now-boss about a job opening he had, I had the strongest sense that something was about to change in my life. I was driving in my car, not thinking of anything in particular but I just knew something was on the way, and that I should be paying attention. It’s an interesting phenomenon.

  31. Yes. I believe. A few years back my husband and I were trying to sell our small condo to move into a larger house, but the market kept dropping lower and lower and lower so we took our home off the market in disappointment. A couple of months later, my husband was diagnosed with cancer and we were so relieved that we didn’t have the stress and expense of a new house going on at the same time.
