Family Hike: A Slice of Life Post

Hello everyone, I hope all is well with you. I’m back today with another Slice of Life Post. I fear this last weekend is going to be our last weekend of nice weather. It has turned windy and chilly here in Michigan and I’m anticipating cold weather in the days to come.

I’m glad we took advantage of our nice weather and got out onto the hiking trail. We went as a family and it was nice creating a memory with the kidlets. We went in the early evening before dinner. The sun rested, near the horizon, a fiery orange ball in the clear sky. We traveled along the path enjoying the peacefulness of the forest.

There was no humidity and very few bugs. A perfect time for a hike. We stepped along the sandy trail planning one of our trips for next summer. There were a few mountain bikers whizzing past, but for the most part we were undisturbed.

It was a nice way to end the weekend.

My boys gave me a hard time, though, claiming they didn’t want to go on the hike. They wanted to play their video games, but I insisted. We needed some family time, and they enjoyed our walk even though they’ll never admit it to me. How do I know?

They laughed and giggled as they climbed the trees along the path.

They also asked for a bedtime story that night. They haven’t asked for one of those in a long time, not since they were little. Sniff. Maybe they’re not in such a hurry to grow up after all. 🙂

It was a great weekend of memories and I look forward to making more. 🙂 How about you? Did you make any memories this weekend? Please share! I’d love to hear from you.

  1. Yiour forest looks wonderful. My granddaughters and I are always on the lookout for a good tree to climb. They’re young and need it to be just right! FYI-I read with my daughter well into high school. Maybe you and the boys are starting a new tradition?

    1. Could be. Wouldn’t that be awesome? Maybe I can get them to tell me a story tonight. Get their creative juices flowing.

I love being in nature and I totally understand your granddaughters needing to find the perfect tree. It’s important! 🙂

  2. What a fun time with your family! I’m glad your boys stepped away from their video games to make some family memories. I made a few myself this weekend visiting my son at the University of Minnesota for the first time. 🙂

  3. My guy and I spent part of the day on Saturday with our 6-year-old grandson. He prefers to spend hours with his Legos, but he took a long walk (a couple of hours) with us in our N.E. village along the paths that the Minutemen walked. He enjoyed the statues and walking across the river, the hot chocolate and the skipping contest with his grandfather. By the end, his cheeks were rosy and his mouth in a wide grin. NOTHING like ‘taking a hike’ with the kids. xo

  4. One of my grandsons is a real bookworm and will spend hours in his room reading and listening to music or playing games during his allotted phone time, he has to be dragged outside for walks, but once outside he loves it! They take their Lab on walks and mountain bike rides in the woods and he comes home and eats the contents of the fridge afterwards! 😂

  5. Lisa, what a lovely day…and then a story like a cherry on the top of a sundae! Video games are hard to compete with! I read to my son and then with him into his teens when we ended after finishing The Lord of the Rings. Best of all I have watched him reading to his kids! I hope you get some Indian Summer and a few more nice weekends before winter! Jo

    1. Thanks, Jo! I’m praying for Indian Summer, too. I’m not ready for the blowing and snow that’s for sure. You have awesome memories of your son and I will, too. I hope they feel they have awesome memories of their mom. 🙂
